Sangeet Natak Academy Awards 2016 announced

The prestigious Fellowship and awards conferred every year by Sangeet Natak Akademi are announced at the General Council meeting held at Guwahati on May 24, 2017.

Among other art forms, artistes who received the awards in the Carnatic music category are talented senior and young artistes.

Eminent vocalist R Vedavalli is elected Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellow (Akademi Ratna) for Carnatic music. She shares this with three other performing artistes.





Senior vocalists Neela Ramgopal and Dr. K. Omanakutty receive the Akademi awards for vocal music, J Vaidyanathan for Carnatic music Instrumental - mridangam and Mysore M Manjunath for Violin.
Dr Pappu Venugopal Rao received the award for scholarship in music.


The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for 2016 has also been annouced. Among the talented young artistes, Trichur Brothers Sri Krishna Mohan & Ramkumar Mohan receive the award for Carnatic vocal and K Sai Giridhar for Mridangam, Ashwin Anand for Veena and B ShreeSundarKumar for Kanjira.


The Akademi Ratna cariies a purse of Rs. 3 Lakhs. Akademi awards carry Rs. 1 lakh as purse money and the Yuva Puraskar awardees Rs, 25000 each.
