Swathi Sangeethotsavam in Thiruvananthapuram - Jan. 4 to 14, 2020



A grand 11-day music festival at the magnificent courtyard of Kuthiramalika, also known as Puthenmalika will be held from Jan. 4 to 14, 2020.

The Swathi Sangeethotsavam is a commemorative festival of Indian Classical music conducted annually in honour of Maharajah Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma of Travancore, who was also a musician and composer.

The festival is held at the palace grounds where the royal composer is said to have composed many kritis.

This year the festival is held at 6 p.m. on all the days from Jan.4 to 14, 2020.

Kuthira malika (Mansion of Horses), is a palace built by Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma, close to Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple.  The palace gets its name from the 122 horses that are carved into the wooden wall brackets that support the southern roof of the palace.

Visitors to the festival may also visit the Palace Museum within the campus. Museum timings:  8.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and 3.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. (Monday closed)There is an entry fee as well as Camera Fee. No photos are allowed inside the museum. Visitors to the museum must remove footwear before entering the inner palace and must be accompanied by a guide. The guide waits for a batch of at least 5 visitors to accompany.

This festival is organized by H.H. Sir Rama Varma Maharaja of Travancore Trust. Any donation to the trust is exempt under 80G of the Income Tax Act.
