Musician and composer Papanasam Sivan's 130th birthday celebrations - Sep. 26 to Oct 1, 2020


The 130th birthday of musician and composer Papanasam Sivan will be celebrated online with a 6-day concert series by eminent artistes. 

Born on Sep. 26, 1890, as Ramayya to his parents Ramamritha Ayer and Yogambal Ammal at Polagam in Thanjavur district, the singer-composer came to be called as 'Sivan' because of his singing in the Sivan temple in Ganapathy Agraharam by the people of the village. Sivan breathed his last on Oct. 1, 1973. The festival is aptly organised to celebrate the days between the two dates, by Sivan Fine Arts Academy and Papanasam Sivan Rasikar Sangam. The 'Sangeethanjali' will have musicians singing 130 kritis of Papanasam Sivan.

The festival will be inaugurated by the President of The Music Academy, N. Murali on Sep. 26, 2020 at 7.30 p.m. A special talk on Papanasam Sivan by Dushyanth Sridhar will follow. From 8 p.m. to 8 p.m. leading artistes will present short concerts as a tribute to the musician.

On the following days from Oct. 27, 2020 till Oct. 1, 2020, concerts will begin at 6 p.m.
